Iain Exley Ltd has been working to turn an unsellable seafront building into an attractive proposition. Originally consisting of two apartments, each apartments’ living area was split by the common way, resulting in an unfunctional configuration with living rooms at the front and bathrooms across the hall at the back. We were able to transform the layout and overcome the issue of access by creating two duplex apartments, adding internal stair cases to each and adding a timber weather boarded extension on to the back that would sit sensitively yet still subserviently to the original building. Although not a listed building it is located in an important conservation area. The building and terrace were designed by Decimus Burton a famous historic architect and it has been a great achievement to gain this planning permission. We are now taking the project forward to tendering and construction.
