These country house cottages were another team exercise at Christopher Smallwood Architects carried by two of us over the course of 3 years. This project was part of a much larger scheme and explored the use of sawn stone ashlar in combination with rubble stone walling. The textural qualities of the walls and shimmering Welsh slate are beautiful. The cottages are a reflection of the regional vernacular style, the bell tower provides focus and essential complexity to the design.
