The Lido Project St-Leonards-on-Sea
The Lido Project in St-Leonard’s-on-Sea was a collaboration between Iain Exley and Quixotic Architecture. The design for the project had to overcome the fact that the original bathing pool lay below the site as a water holding tank and the concrete lid could only carry lightweight structures. Together Iain Exley and Quixotic overcame the issue through developing a Water sports Centre with changing rooms, shower facilities, restaurant and judges platform for kite and wind surfing events all engineered out of shipping containers. The plan form of the project paid homage to Sidney Little’s original Lido which lay below the site. The project received wide acclaim and was featured in the architects Journal as well as a number of other architectural publications.
